People with respiratory conditions or airway diseases often rely on medication and medical devices to improve their breathing experience. Nebulizers and compressors can really make a difference in comfort and oxygen saturation for people who present with conditions like asthma, cystic fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and other respiratory issues. If you are suffering from any such disorder and need more information on treatment options, please consult with your doctor and read this article. Nebulizers

These are medical devices designed to deliver medication into the lungs. They serve the same purpose as an inhaler, and both are available by prescription only. Inhalers are portable and handheld. Nebulizers transform liquid medicine into a mist to be inhaled into the lungs. They are countertop machines, not handheld, so they are typically used at home. It’s a simple procedure of measuring medicine into a cup and attaching the cup to the device with tubing. The machine aerosolizes the medicine, breaking it into small airborne droplets that are easily inhaled, and delivers it to your lungs via a mouthpiece or mask. It can take up to 20 minutes to consume medication.

Lifts

This respiration therapy uses the same type of medication that is delivered by metered-dose inhalers (MDIs), which are the portable inhalers that asthma patients may carry with them. For some people, nebulizers are more reliable, efficient, or comfortable than a portable inhaler. This may apply particularly to young children and adults who experience severe asthma. There can also be different degrees of insurance coverage for the two options. Nebulizers do need to be cleaned correctly between uses to remain sanitary.

The most common type is a jet nebulizer, also called an atomizer. It relies on a supply of compressed gas, usually air or oxygen. The device includes a base that holds an air compressor along with a small container for liquid medication, and a tube to connect the two. The user can use either a mask or a mouthpiece to inhale the mist. It has the advantage of low operating costs, especially when compared to portable inhalers. However, they tend to be loud and heavy. Portable versions are available, as are other varieties such as ultrasonic, which offers a much quieter user experience.

Compressors

These are the essential partners to nebulizer function. They compress ambient air and blast it through liquid medicine at very high speeds, breaking it into a mist of tiny airborne droplets. In many cases, the compressor is actually part of the device, but they can also be sold as separate units.
